Lindsay & Justin | backyard Malibu wedding

Lindsay & Justin had a fabulous backyard Malibu wedding! I love everything about this wedding!  The artsy neighborhood, chic decor, burlap, moss, gold, chevron, and small wedding was a perfect combination!  We love that Lindsay let us interview her about her wedding. Enjoy!

Q: What is your favorite memory of your wedding?
A: I don’t have one favorite moment. The entire day was perfect!

Q: How would you describe the theme & vibe of your wedding?
A: I would describe the theme and vibe of our wedding as rustic bohemian chic. The colors were grey (graphite), muted rose, silver and gold.

Q: What new trends do you see for next year?
A: I’m not sure. I’m guessing more moss and burlap ;)

Q: Where did you get your dress & accessories?
A: I got my dress from Bella Bridesmaids. It was from the bridal line called “Saja”. My earrings came from, my rings were custom made by the fantastic jeweler Ofer Saha from Nuo Jewelry, my tennis bracelet was my “something old” and was my husband’s mother’s bracelet. The comb I wore was my “something borrowed” and was the comb my friend Ashley (Vilgiate) wore on her wedding day. My veil came from “Gracefully Girly” on Etsy.backyard malibu wedding bride with greenery bouquetmalibu bride glancing at herself in mirrorvintage styled bride with rustic oak treebackyard wedding bride with fish net veil against brick wall

Q: Where did you find those amazing bridesmaids dresses?
A: The Matron of honor (Erin) and Best woman’s (Melissa) dresses were from JCrew and were inspired by Mia, our flower girl who had worn her adorable “graphite jcrew” dress as a flower girl in her uncle’s wedding. Olivia Elizabeth, the 4 month old “bridesmaids” dresses were from Kailee, the ‘”ring fairy” got her dress from “Sweet Kids” on

Q: How did you select your venue?
A: After attending my sister Erin and her husband Jake’s very small wedding a few years ago we wanted to have a small, intimate ceremony. We selected our venue after staying for the weekend a while back and Ashley and her husband Nico’s house. We knew that we wanted to have a small, intimate wedding and love their house as well as the location (Santa Monica Canyon). Budget was also an important deciding factor.malibu backyard wedding DIY decorvintage malibu wedding classic bride and groom laughingrustic malibu backyard wedding you may kiss the bridebride and groom with rustic wood door and bridesmaids

Q: If you could give a bride one tip what would it be?
A: Have a small wedding if you can, make sure to have at least one day before the wedding to RELAX, like a spa day or something (this is something I did not do!).

Q: If you could give a groom one tip what would it be?
A: Help with the planning, like my husband did! Have fun and also take a day to relax before the wedding.

Q: What is your favorite image from your wedding?
A: I have many. One was taking photos with my family including my 4 month old twin nieces who were my “bridesmaids.” I also had a blast on the post-ceremony photo-shoot with Justin and also with the wedding party. I’d also have to say getting to spend some time and sharing our day with everyone was lovely. Another favorite image was looking around the room and seeing everyone enjoying themselves.malibu backyard wedding bride and groom kissingrustic malibu backyard wedding groom looking back at bride with wood panels

Q: What made your wedding unique?
A: I believe the small size, venue and intimate feel of our wedding made it unique.

Q: What were your favorite details?
A: I did not have any particular favorite detail. There were many (Thank you Ashley!!).

Q: What inspired you most while planning your wedding?
A: What really inspired me was having a small and intimate, low-key wedding. I fell in love with the rustic/bohemian chic style on Pinterest. My friend Ashley (whose gorgeous Santa Monica Canyon house our wedding was at) designed the invitations, menus, place settings and flower arrangements. Ashley and I also came up with the backdrop from various ideas on Pinterest. Ashley successfully executed the wedding “vision.”vintage malibu wedding table centerpieces and wedding cakemalibu wedding bride with adorable baby twin girlsvintage malibu wedding rings and wedding bandmalibu wedding bride and groom laughing with each otherbackyard malibu wedding polaroid photographsQ: Did you have any special songs picked out for the reception?
A: Every song we played was special to us. Music is very important to us. Justin and I spent a lot of time choosing songs for the entire afternoon and evening. We picked “Step” by Vampire Weekend for our song for the bride to walk down the aisle to, “My Girls” by Animal Collective. We had planned to have our first dance song to “Open” by Rhye, but we did not end up dancing.

Q: If you could do it over again, what would you do different?
A: Danced. I would have loved to have danced with everyone. I would have also have loved to have figured out a way to have our dog Annie and cats Charlotte and Lucy be a part of the wedding.
