This lovely couple, Brenda and Joseph, decided to marry at this gorgeous private home in Pacific Palisades. The setting and scenery at this Lake House is beautiful. I just loved all the opportunities to get amazing shots :)
We love interviewing our brides! We asked Brenda & Joe to share some details about themselves and their wedding.
Q. What was your biggest challenge & joy planning your wedding?
A. The biggest challenge was figuring out almost everything ourselves without the help of a wedding coordinator. The biggest joy was having friends and family offer to help, but ultimately relying on each other to get tasks done. We make a great team!
Q. Tell us about how you met, fell in love, got engaged.
A. We met December 2008 through our mutual friend, Alexis. Joe was working with Alexis at the time and Brenda was friends with Alexis. It just so happened that she invited each of us out for someone’s birthday that fateful night. It wasn’t a set up, however, and we didn’t go on our first date until March 7, 2009. Yes, that’s right. We’ll be celebrating our five year anniversary this Friday!
(Brenda) – I wanted to take it slow at first, but then I’d catch myself always looking forward to our next meeting. Even when I’d spend the night at Joe’s place, I’d already be looking toward the morning so we could continue spending time together. That’s how I knew – there was never enough time with Joe! Everyday I continue to look forward to all the adventures ahead of us, both big and small and mundane.
(Joe) – Right away I was drawn to Brenda’s sense of humor and intelligence. I could tell she was intelligent with a sense of humor because she laughed at my jokes. Receiving this kind of positive affirmation from a very attractive young lady like Brenda made me feel good, and I suppose the effort and attention I was extending to her made her feel good as well. So far, we’ve kept this dynamic going for five years, and I see no reason that it shouldn’t keep going strong for at least another six months.
Q. We love details!! Please tell us about the rings, your dress, grooms attire, wedding party attire and any other details about the wedding.
A. Our rings (engagement and both bands) were designed by Julio Benez at Artisan LA Jewelry in Los Feliz. He did an amazing job listening to us and making our ideas a reality.
Brides shoes were from Macy’s for $45 – what a deal!!
Groom’s shoes were ones he already owned.
I went with a rental dress from Wedding Time. Sook and her assistant picked out several dresses based on my answers to their questions. They did an amazing job finding ones that flattered my body type. I would recommend Wedding Time to anyone. They were extremely helpful and they have a beautiful selection. I am also renting my jewelry (just a pair of earrings) from Wedding Time. They also rent veils, but I decided to not wear a veil. Joe’s suit is by Ben Sherman. He found the pants discounted at Nordstrom Rack and bought the jacket from the Ben Sherman store at the Beverly Center. Tie was from Macy’s Men’s Store.
The vases we used for the reception and cocktail tables were $2 each from IKEA. The flowers were purchased from various L.A. Flower Mart vendors and arranged by family members. The tables were decorated with votive candle holders, some purchased from IKEA and some from Z Gallery. We also had an area where we hung childhood pictures of ourselves and old pictures of family. Both Dave and the property owner, Ellie, recommended us to Pico Party Rentals in Culver City.
